Dennis Skogen - President

Dennis SkogenDennis Skogen is a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and as a Mechanical Engineer has consulted in the field of Accident Reconstruction since 1970. In his experience of reconstructing thousands of accidents, the most common factor which causes or contributes to many motor vehicle accidents is alcohol abuse.

As a founding Member of the Recovery Foundation, he has assisted in formulating the goals of the Recovery Foundation and in implementing  programs for assisting scholarship applicants during their recovery efforts. Dennis has been rewarded by seeing Recovery Foundation event participants enjoying the fruits of recovery.  He has been a voluntary advisor to the Wisconsin Governor’s office and the City of Madison concerning the improvement of safety on Wisconsin roadways.

 

Mason Tikkanen – Treasurer

Mason Tikkanen has a passion for improving the quality of life of for individuals within the community. He is a Wisconsin native and has lived in the Madison area since 2000.

Mason has spent the last 10 years working in the financial services and technology industry. He has been involved in, created, and managed a number of employee resource groups and networking organizations.

Mason is the current President of the Madison East/Monona Rotary Club, has served as a Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, and as a member of the Rosenberry Society with the United Way.

Mason currently serves as Treasurer of Recovery Foundation, Inc. and has been a board member since 2009.

 

 

 

Candace Peterson, Ph.D. - Secretary

Candace is the Project Manager of Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Lifestyles,see www.wiphl.org.  In recovery herself, she has worked in the field of substance abuse for over two decades in program planning, delivery and evaluation, at the local, state and national level.  She feels privileged to serve as an officer of the board of the Recovery Foundation, and to work to support sobriety and health.

 

 

Sarah Dunn Carpenter

Business Development Manager for CG Schmidt

Sarah serves as the Business Development Manager for the Western Region of CG Schmidt, a construction management firm with offices in Madison and Milwaukee.  Before joining CG Schmidt, Sarah served as the Director of Community Relations for the Hammes Company managing the marketing, public relations and community engagement functions for the $100 million redevelopment of the Edgewater Hotel. Prior to joining Hammes, she was employed in a variety of capacities with Marshall Erdman & Associates, including positions in business development, corporate communications, human resources, and marketing.

Sarah has also served in leadership capacities on boards, committees, or participated in special projects for a variety of non-profit organizations in the community such as American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Susan G. Komen, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, and United Way.

She is currently serving on the board of directors for the Aaron J. Meyer Foundation, Madison Area Rehabilitation Centers, Madison Children's Museum and Recovery Foundation. She is also serving in a leadership capacity for Blessed Sacrament Church, and the Clean Lakes Alliance.

 

Shelly Dutch, CSAC, ICS

Shelly is the Director of Connections Counseling and has working in the AODA field for 28 years. She has been in recovery on and off since 1983. Shelly has surrounded herself with recovery through her career and by attending self-help groups. She is described as being compassionate, genuine and having zest for life.

Shelly enjoys being part of Recovery Foundation’s mission by providing scholarships for those in need as well as educating the community to help increase awareness about addiction.

Tami Bahr, LCSW, CSAC, ICS

Tami Bahr is a mental health and substance abuse counselor. 

Initially, she wanted to work with homeless individuals and very quickly became aware of the pervasiveness of mental health and substance use in this particular population.  As her knowledge base increased, her interests expanded to include all individuals experiencing mental health or substance use issues. Tami’s life has been affected by addiction in many ways. Personally, she struggled with substances in college and has seen the effects on friends and family. 

Tami has enjoyed the many community events hosted by the Recovery Foundation while on the board. JamFest was particularly enjoyable as it was wonderful to see people come together to celebrate recovery!

Tami has been greatly influenced by the people she works with on a daily basis. They have taught her that life is unpredictable and it is important to live to your full potential every day.

Tami herself has had a positive impact on many young people seeking recovery.
